Engine Tune-Ups
The newer automobiles with their
electronic ignitions don't need tune-ups nearly as often as the older cars with their
mechanical breaker points and condensers, but the distributor caps, rotors, spark plugs
and ignition wires need to be replaced regularly to keep the higher ignition voltages from
jumping to the electrical ground of the engine and chassis. Most problems with
engines running erratically and getting poor fuel efficiency come from such electrical
ignition components that need replacing. However, sometimes poor engine performance
and efficiency is due to failure of one or several of the many electrical sensors which
monitor engine temperature, vacuum, rpm, and the condition of exhaust and intake gasses.
In addition, poor performance or engine knocking can be due to a failure of a
critical component such as a exhaust gas re-circulation valve. Engine knocking or
pre-detonation can damage pistons and valves if it is allowed to continue too long.
Sometimes engines can suffer serious
damage if continuously operated when critical sensors or control valves are not operating,
or are not operating properly.
Our diagnostic equipment, which is the
latest and most complex on the market, help our mechanics, who are among the best trained
in the industry, to determine just what's causing your engine's poor performance.
If your automobile engine just isn't
performing up to par, come see us for a tune-up or check-out. An engine that isn't
performing as it should makes for an unhappy driver, and could be costly in the long run.
